Welcome to Phi Delta Epsilon – TN Alpha!

 

Two years ago, our chapter was founded at UT by our chapter coordinator, Ashley Wells, with the goal of creating a community for pre-med students. Today, we have not only achieved this goal but have also continued to grow and make an impact within the Knoxville community. In PhiDE, you become part of a long-lasting “Ph-amily.” A support that can extend beyond your years as a pre-med undergraduate. Now, I get the privilege to tell you all about Phi Delta Epsilon, here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. 

 

My name is Michael Gutierrez, and I am a Senior studying Chemistry and French. I first came across PhiDE towards the end of my first semester of freshman year. I applied, not knowing what I was getting myself into, but little did I know, it would turn out to be the best decision I ever made.

 

As pre-med students, we often find ourselves asking: What should I do next? Should I take this class? How do I get into research? How do I find shadowing opportunities? How do I study for the MCAT? The path to medicine isn’t the same for everyone, and navigating it can feel overwhelming. Many of us experience confusion and doubt in ways that can be hard to explain to others. Nonetheless, in PhiDE, I am able to find the guidance and support I need. I am able to find familiar faces in my classes. I am able to find a group of friends. I was able to find a place I can call home. 

 

And PhiDE feels this way because of the incredible individuals who make up our chapter. Our uniquely skilled and talented members, our dedicated officers and chairs, and our advisors, alumni, and medical students who are always eager to help. It truly takes a village, and that’s what makes our community strong and unique.

 

The moments I’ve had in PhiDE have been truly meaningful, and I hope to continue sharing this welcoming, non-competitive environment with others. So take a chance, and see where this journey takes you. We can’t wait to welcome you into our growing Ph-amily!
